The Audience
Have you ever wondered what is going behind the close door?
On the 12th September, thanks to the initiative of British Council and Multikino, we had an amazing opportunity to take part in an amazing event. Without moving too far, or in some cases, moving at all, we found ourselves in Londons National Theatre, and could all admire the newest production The Audience.
Every Tuesday at approximately 6:30
There are legends created about what was said and done in that room. According to the biographers, the Queen has always been composed and professional, but on the other hand it is speculated that these conversations do not concern only the matters of politics. After all, the Queen and the Prime Minister are only humans.
Peter Morgan crated his own version of the events, starting from right after the coronation, and finishing on current events concerning the royal family. His vision of these meetings is funny and witty, showing the extremely humane sides of both parties.
The events presented take up about 60 years, but there is no chronological order to the meetings. The whole play seems to be a bitter-sweet memory of everything that happened.
The character of the Queen portrayed by Helen Mirren is absolutely incredible. She is so honest in her role, so composed, yet the audience is able to notice every little change of her expression, whenever she is concerned, sad, ill. Mirren jumps from a young girl, who is proud and wants to be independent, to an experienced majestic woman, who somehow, regardless her title and age, is not intimidating but encouraging, and yet can be frightening at times. Her Queen is a powerful woman, but still only a woman who has to face her fate.
Each Prime Minister deserves to be mentioned, as they did keep up with Mirrens mastery, and each of them created an individual, with goals, dreams and expectations.
The humour in this play is extremely witty, and the conversations often though serious, made the audience laugh. I have never heard people in a cinema laugh so much, as I did during The Audience.

p.m., the Queen of England has a private audience with her prime minister. The meeting takes place in the private audience room located on the first floor of the Buckingham Palace.
What happens in that room, stays in that room. Both sides agreed that everything said remains secrete, to all except the two of them - the Queen and her Prime Minister.
