Books worth reading (according to IB
journal editors)
Summer is over, but you can still feel the summer spirit! There is no
better way to relax and forget about the pile of unfinished internal
assessments than grabbing a book.
Here is our list of books you should take into consideration when
planning your book list:
The fault in our stars (John Green)
An international bestseller. A story of love between two teenagers struck with terminal illness. Even though it sounds like a typical tear jerker, it is full of references to world's literature and witty humour. Read and see what is this fuss all about. And then go and watch the film.
Frankenstein (Mary Shelley)
You probably know Frankenstein - you know, this monster with a bolt in his Neck. But have you read the book? Gotcha! Written by a 19 year old, this novel surprises with its depth and modernity. Mary Shelley's reflections on power of humanity and ethics in science are still relatable today. Especially recommended to any gothic novel lover.
A song of Ice and Fire (George R. R. Martin)
If you haven't heard of Game of thrones, you must be living in a desert. An epic fantasy saga with complex characters and imaginable plot. It contradicts everything you could expect of a book like this.
Jeeves and Wooster
(P.G. Wodehouse)
If you are a fan of British sense of humour, this series is for you! A story of a quite slow young gentleman and his bright and educated manservant. Together they encounter all kinds of problems that are seemingly impossible to solve. But with Jeeves help anything is possible. And very funny.
Three bags full (Leonie Swann)
One day sheep find their shepherd dead with a spade in his middle. Miss Maple, the cleverest sheep is resolved to find the murderer.
It is a crime novel. Set in Ireland. With sheep as a detective. Sounds ridiculous? It is! But I can assure you won't stop reading and laughing!

There is no major character, it is rather a story about a land and people who inhabit it, than about one person's adventures. Nothing is black and white, and you never know what happens next. Exciting, isn't it? Don't feel discouraged if you watch the tv series. It is not the same.
